about

These are my interpretations of songs written by one of my favorite writers and people, Jason Reis. In addition to being a childhood friend and bandmate in a few different projects, Jason helped push me as a young song-writer and home recording enthusiast.

For the few years we lived together out in Porter Square, Cambridge, we would be holed-up in our rooms all night and pass 4-track tapes back and forth the next day, eagerly listening to what the other had created. Jason's songs always blew my mind wide open and seemed to come so effortlessly.

A few months back, I came across some of his old demos that he sent me after he had set off to the West Coast for awhile (Pacific Standard Time, Road Song, Lovely). I was inspired to take a crack at some of these songs to both help show people what a good writer Jason is and to put my own style on them in a way I think he'd get a kick out of. Other songs I picked were a favorite from his next phase in Chicago (Stone) and one he recorded when he was just 19 on a 4-track borrowed from my Dad (Love For Now/New Cars).

Jason is still a tireless writer, home-recorder and marathon runner, but rarely plays live. But rest assured, he's alive and well and continuing to do things in his own inspiring way. I had a lot of fun making this and spending time, in a way, with my old partner in crime.

Enjoy.
